Elle.com on LFDW 2013 - 7 Designers to Watch From Lagos' Emerging Fashion Scene

Via elle.com

From Maki Oh, Jewel by Lisa, ROF, Tsemaye Binitie, Tiffany Amber to Orange Culture and Samson Soboye, TANWI NANDINI ISLAM profiles seven (7) Nigerian designers to watch.

Excerpt:

Lagos, Nigeria’s cultural capital and city of 21 million people, might not be the most obvious site for a runway show, let alone a week devoted to fashion. The city is known for its oil reserves, sure, but fashion? Increasingly, the answer is yes.

Last month, Lagos played host to the 3rd Annual Lagos Fashion and Design Week, a four-day, beachside affair showcasing Nigeria’s brightest designers.

In boardrooms and parliaments, on television and the stage, women are increasingly making their presence felt across Africa and on the world stage. The inaugural ARISE 100 list champions just some of the remarkable women shaping modern Africa today. Icons such as Angélique Kidjo, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Charlize Theron sit alongside lesser-known heroines such as scientist Tebello Nyokong, social entrepreneur Wendy Luhabe and political comedian Odile Sankara.
We share their stories and record their amazing achievements in the fields of politics, business, campaigning, fashion, science and technology, arts and literature, media and communications, law, sport and entertainment.
The African Union has christened this the African Women's Decade, so what better time to celebrate the women changing the face of Africa on the continent and around the world? This is their time.

MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week which aims to be a premiere fashion event is set to bring together media, industry, buyers and consumers to view the current collections of designers in the fashion capital of Lagos, Nigeria.

This platform aims to cut across geographic and culture barriers to position itself as a business of fashion and design event targeted at showcasing the best of the fashion and design industry, drive the Nigerian fashion economy and ultimately uplift its profile within the industry.

Again this year, Lagos will play host to this fashion and design led event that will feature –

When Vogue Italia Visited Fashion Designers in Lagos

Yesterday, one of my PR mentors and PR Girl for Lanre Da-Silva Ajayi @Onobellotweeted about being with Roberto Cavalli...I felt so happy and wanted all the gist. But sad, couldn't get enough, so I'll put it as simple as I heard it...Vogue Italia Editor, Franca Sozzani alongside Franca Sozanni and Roberto Cavalli are in Nigeria previewing the works of few Nigerian designers. So far designers confirmed include; Lanre Da Silva Ajayi’s and VictataT-shirts

A shoot featuring a few Nigerian designers is also supposed to be featured in Vogue Italia, however there is no confirmation on this when it is to be published.

According to sources "Rumour has it that Cavalli is in Nigeria to open a brand new shop there".

To that I say Fantastic!

Seriously! I can't wait for all the fabulous things this year has stored up somewhere..woo!

Let's all watch out for the best..Meanwhile
