Deola Sagoe on Arise TV - On 25years in the Fashion Industry
Ojy Okpe shared this on Facebook recently and I thought to share on here with people who might be interested.
Deola Sagoe has been of great influence on the fashion industry in Nigeria and Africa as a whole her designs have reached far and inspired several others not just to love fashion but to start their own passion. In an exclusive interview with Arise TV, Deola Sagoe talks to Lola Ogunnaike about her journey through the industry - the transition to DEOLA and many more.

Talk about perfect fashion through a generation, CLAN has confirmed the fact of the saying; "fashion can be inherited.." Clan showcased an impressive collection at the EbonyLife launch few days ago. Yes, I love all the pieces.

Deola Sagoe Throws Back at the Future with 'KOMOLE' 2013
I love this collection, it's really Komole just like in the 60's. Reminds me of those old photos of my parents except the styling here is different.
See; instead of the huge head styles or head gears, here the models adorn a rather more modern look almost as seen in Mad Men (on the women now); instead of the very big chunky heels, wedges worn then, here the models were very chic shoes ; lastly rather than double layers wrappers or heavy fabric, the fabric here is simple yet classic, vintage yet modern, cool yet mature, looking back yet fashion forward.
Each look is a perfect representation of future inspired vintage love of African fashion sense even in a very conventional way...It's beautiful, and graceful in a way.
With the right styling and accessorizing, each piece in this collection can be well dressed up for any occasion. Yes, from formal, corporate, casual, glam, 'Komole' can be rocked!
With wonderful photography impact by Kelechi Amadi-Obi and beautiful styling by the lovely Ifeoma Williams, this collection brings back the long desired sweetness of master designer and inspiration, Deola Sagoe.

Sharleen Dziire Dazzles in Ituen Basi, Deola Sagoe, Gavin Rajah and More for Elle South Africa January 2013
Like I always say, it's one thing to have a fantastic idea for a fashion editorial but executing the entire idea is entirely a different deal. Often times, when I find editorials or photos of good art I endeavour to see beyond the pictures and colours, I reason deep into what could have spurred such idea while also considering the little details around the production; styling, location, model, photography, etc
On my frequent surfing on the internet I stumbled on this fashion editorial featured in the January 2013 edition of South African Elle; the shoot titled Jozi Maboneng features several African designers such as Ituen Basi, Taibo Bacar, Gavin Rajah, Deola Sagoe, Marianne Fassler, and more. I think this is one shoot to commend and pass along, it's beautiful. See more pictures of the shoot below.

Deola Sagoe, Vivienne Westwood, Iman, Lisa Folawiyo, Folake Folarin-Coker, Oluchi Orlandi, Alek Wek, Candice Swanpoel, Sophie Okonedo, Thandie Newton and More Make ARISE 100: Dynamic Women
In boardrooms and parliaments, on television and the stage, women are increasingly making their presence felt across Africa and on the world stage. The inaugural ARISE 100 list champions just some of the remarkable women shaping modern Africa today. Icons such as Angélique Kidjo, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Charlize Theron sit alongside lesser-known heroines such as scientist Tebello Nyokong, social entrepreneur Wendy Luhabe and political comedian Odile Sankara.
We share their stories and record their amazing achievements in the fields of politics, business, campaigning, fashion, science and technology, arts and literature, media and communications, law, sport and entertainment.
The African Union has christened this the African Women's Decade, so what better time to celebrate the women changing the face of Africa on the continent and around the world? This is their time.
