No Future for Saint Laurent?

One review actually said – “Hedi Slimane's Fall 2013 Saint Laurent collection was confusing, puzzling and just plain strange”.

Well, opinions they are… which got me wondering though; how much does a collection say about a brand? Does a ‘wrong’ collection kill or strengthen a brand?

                                    

This is how iDesign puts it; “Since Slimane's appointment at Saint Laurent last March, the choice has been endlessly debated. Though Slimane was largely viewed as a cult figure, he hadn't designed since leaving Dior Homme in 2007 and he'd never designed womenswear. He also incensed the fashion elite in June when he changed the iconic Yves Saint Laurent name to Saint Laurent. At best it felt misguided. At worst, arrogant and immature”

I on the other hand am one of few watching the brand steadfastly, watching for the successes and obviously comments/observations like this.

Like an Invasion! ... Alexander Wang NYFW Fall 13

Oh Alex!...that was my first post title when I finally found time to look through runway pictures of some shows from the on going New York Fashion Week. Not that I am surprised...well, not really considering his recent campaign that features most of the trends spotted here. There's no arguing anything, Alexander Wang is brilliant and he'll do a fantastic job at Balenciaga! Yes, I'm very sure of that (no fingers crossed, it's the fact!)

 

 Known for his *mischievous* designs and trends, Alexander Wang is one of the very distinct young designers of now that are setting trend...personally, I think he's taking the lead. He's a bit of everything - simple, chic, boyish, edgy, functional, rough, masculine meets femininity and more. Again, I say he's brilliant!

TREND FORECAST: For the Love of Fashion - Come 2013

2012 has been a very lovely and fulfilling year, with lots of good news, achievements, and discoveries, blessings within and outside the fashion industry.

In 2012 we saw different fashion trends revealed by various designers on the runway and in their look books but the question is what trends will be carried on into 2013. From the long list of trends that reigned through 2012, from sheer, lace, high slits, shorts, etc which ones will trend in 2013?

It’s obvious some of the 2012 trends will come along into the New Year but it’s apparent also that new ones will be discovered. I took up a challenge of looking through the past and most recent collections – Spring/Summer, Pre Fall, Fall/Winter, Ready-to-Wear to examine what trends so far within the last couple months, say three months will extend into the New Year. And yes, there are new trends, beautiful and safer ones too.

Some of these trends include; leather, stripes thanks to Marc Jacobs and Rebahia, lace …more lace, African print, folds & wraps, flares, capes and lines, holographic details and more.

My favourite pick of trends to watch in 2013 are highlighted below….
