#METBALL 2014: Charles James – Beyond Fashion

Tonight, 5^th May 2014, world’s most extravagant fashion – Met Ball will be the first at the newly reopened Anna Wintour Costume Centre.

This year’s theme is “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” - a retrospective of the 20th-century British-born, American-based couturier.

Everyone is looking forward to red carpet moments of their favourite style stars so I thought to share mine because they never disappoint. Top on my list is the unfailing Sarah Jessica Parker, followed by Rooney Mara {she definitely grunge and weird so cool}, then there’s Iman, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Madonna. New comers I’m looking forward to include; Lupita Nyong’o, Allison Williams and maybe Mandy Kaling. Meanwhile, I’ll take to Instagram for the #BRC {before red carpet}.

Reni Folawiyo in Vika Gazinskaya S/S14 at H.O.A.Y.S Lagos Premiere

Reni Folawiyo (middle in photo above) rocked this beautiful Vika Gazinskaya SS14 piece to the Lagos premiere of Half of a Yellow Sun{HOAYS} over the weekend. I must say, if there's anyone that can pull such off, it's definitely her. I've always loved her effortless craft with clothes, beautifully designs especially.

Vika Gazinskaya is a Russian designer known for her voluminously exaggerated designs; the way she brilliantly mixes vintage with a hint of modernity has placed her on a high pedestal in the fashion industry - a reason she made it to LVMH Prize list. 

The designer herself is a style 'influencer'; her red carpet and street style looks are always enviable... she simply knows how to make old the new 'new', something Reni Folawiyo possesses too. After a little research, I found each piece (blouse and skirt) costs about $1, 700 each.

Top 10: Best Dressed (Women) - Golden Globes 2014

I am not one of the many that stay up late to watch red carpet during the award season, but lately I've been very fond of red carpet styles, celebrity looks and most especially *this isn't gonn' sound nice* getting familiar with Hollywood red carpet designs just to have my facts when - again, I have to condemn a Nigerian designer for stealing/copying an international designer's style.

Unfortunately..or fortunately for me yesterday, I decided to skip new season of Criminal Minds to watch the 2014 Golden Globes on E! and it's true what they say - watching the awards on TV is more fun than being there (that's what Hollywood peeps say, at least).

Well, it was a fun night. I had companions - Pringles, biscuits, juice and of course my Blackberry right by my side for the wonderful journey into the Who Wore What at the Golden Globes...Yes, it was fun. Every bit of it! The red carpet moments, the stunning ladies, the charming men, the 360 camera, and surely Guliana Rancic's dumb lines.

As usual, I prefer to stick with the positive, no point hammering over what's ugly or what's not so-good (that's not what this blog's about)..I believe in reveling in the beauty of beautiful. So, after long hours of "Oh fab!" "Oh No!" and "Wow I love that" I finally came up with a list of my top 10 Best Dressed - Females (Male is coming up shortly).

I love this outfit, the entire styling is simply stunning. I love that Rita decided to keep her a simple for the first time *a round of applause*.

Her outfit is by one of the designers (House of Nwocha) I have never given any credit but wow she did pull this off well; stunning fabric, good structure, red-carpet-glam length and oh how that cape seals the deal.

What’s Your Glamour?

Recently while reading an old edition of Elle magazine (one of the few things I love doing while sipping coffee) I stumbled upon an interview on one of my favourite designers – Thakoon Panichgul.

In the interview, Thakoon described ‘Glamour’ as having the confidence to wear casual yet intricate, cerebral designs…”which got me thinking; what defines casual in relation with glamour – I mean, how do you look glamourous at the same time simple, classy and casual to no point of looking mundane?

I’ve always been of the opinion (which I’ve found is true) that not everyone that says casual or even classy really means it ‘your’ way. In other words, the saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison” fits appropriate. But in this contest one man/woman’s ‘Class’, ‘Sophistication’, ‘Casual’ is another man’s ‘Tacky’, ‘Trashy’, or even ‘Trendy’.

So how do we all come to terms with thoughts and sense of individual reasoning --- in fashion that is?

The Question: How do you become sure that that person’s idea of being/looking classy, casual, chic is yours?

When TIME calls for a party there are two thoughts that ring through a great mind - "what to wear" and "what have I achieved" yep! that too.

It's no news Tilda Swinton never mises when it comes to her style on the red carpet; from her hair, makeup to the clothing she's always a *STAR*. Her look to the TIME 100 Icons Gala Cocktail Party in New York is super stunning, fresh and most importantly 'power-filled'. I love, love and love all over again. I'm guessing it's another Haider Ackermann or Michael Kors? Now searching...will be back with update.

Glam Report: Best of Golden Globes Awards '13

Golden Globes Awards 2013 was a great success...as usual, it was filled with jokes, speeches and lots of fashion moments that went from wow to awww. Top designers like Chanel, Donna Karan, Elie Saab, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and more were spotted on the red carpet and while some celebrities pulled off glamorous looks others almost lost it all with wrong accessories, hair styles and makeup.

Well, I prefer going with the positive side of things, so I selected my best moments - red carpet fashion of course at the 70th edition of Golden Globes Awards 2013.

My Best Dressed at the SMVA 2010 is ...

The short dress drift had a long toll at the recently held Soundcity Music Video Awards with the likes of Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Eku Edewor, Omawunmi, Adora Oleh, Zizi Cardow, Ruby Dabbour amongst other guests. While quite a number of looks made it to my favourites, one really looked adorably chic and feminine and that will be the glam look of ex beauty queen and actress, Ibinabo Fiberisima. She really rocked a blue sequined rear baring flow dress. I really loved her look – with little make up and ornaments she rocked that look.
