What’s Your Glamour?

Recently while reading an old edition of Elle magazine (one of the few things I love doing while sipping coffee) I stumbled upon an interview on one of my favourite designers – Thakoon Panichgul.

In the interview, Thakoon described ‘Glamour’ as having the confidence to wear casual yet intricate, cerebral designs…”which got me thinking; what defines casual in relation with glamour – I mean, how do you look glamourous at the same time simple, classy and casual to no point of looking mundane?

I’ve always been of the opinion (which I’ve found is true) that not everyone that says casual or even classy really means it ‘your’ way. In other words, the saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison” fits appropriate. But in this contest one man/woman’s ‘Class’, ‘Sophistication’, ‘Casual’ is another man’s ‘Tacky’, ‘Trashy’, or even ‘Trendy’.

So how do we all come to terms with thoughts and sense of individual reasoning --- in fashion that is?
The Question: How do you become sure that that person’s idea of being/looking classy, casual, chic is yours?

The Gain and Loss of AMFW '13

Streetstyle, AMFW '11

Relax, it’s okay!
We’ll all be fine in a bit. Not to worry, it’s not the end of the world it’ll just be after the end of this year…
I mean, that it was cancelled this year doesn’t mean we still cannot have fun or any good fashion week at that - Yes, I’m talking about AMFW.
Actually, for as many people like me who continue to complain about this loss, that gain and how boring the rest of the year will be --- oh, plus all the pressures I’ve been through even at a very high level – there’s a reason to be happy, something is cooking. Cooking real fast too and oh yeah you’ll enjoy it. It smells delicious and tastes healthy too.
Watch this space….dazall!

Journey Through the September Issue Part 2

Continuing from my last read - campaigns and all, I resumed reading on the contributors page featuring, Jonathan Van Meter, John Holagate and Virgina Smith who talked about their experience on pairing designers and their muse for an editorial photo shoot, Irish writer and poet Colm Toibin, Hamish Bowles, etc

On 'up front' is the story of a beloved dog, Rose lost over 15years ago...quite an interesting story which I could not stop reading till the end

"Stop as any rabbit, she was all over white with one ginger war, a gingered spot between her shoulder blades. White dogs are slow to show their age"

Throughout its 120-year history, Vogue has been creating arresting images intended to make the reader's eye stop. And with a new book 'The Editor's Eye' which is a collection of all of Vogue's covers, fashion shoots,  etc it's an opportunity to explore the Vogue archive.

FLASH
A selection of top personalities, activities, books, and places that seem to be of important impact on the edition.

Life with Andre
This section is one of my favourite sections of US Vogue, it's also a top reason I'd get a copy of any edition...clearly speaking or in simple terms reading, listening or just watching Andre Leon Tally (my Spirit Animal) is the most thrilling experience I'd give up any thing for. Andre is more than experienced, he's one of the most important, conversant and respected personalities in the entire fashion and style world worldwide. His section in  the magazine, Life with Andre, he reviews collections, people, happenings amongst other things, comparing, contrasting and melding the past, the present and the future in relation with the unpredictable and abstract. In this issue, Andre goes back in time into the lives of fashion's notably top designers; Zac Posen, Prabal Gurung, Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Yohji Yamamoto and Marc Jacobs- one of the most influential and prophetic designers both for his own label and for Louis Vuitton. These are designers who after careful studying and understudying of the industry they started their own labels and so far successes within all the challenges and hardworking.
Vera Wang's former boss thinks "fashion should continue to be inspiring, relevant and celebrate the individual spirit. It will always be important for designers to have unique voices and remain true to themselves." - Ralph Lauren
While Marc Jacobs hopes fashion's future leans heavily toward "a continued promotion of self-expression. More freedom, no boundaries - individuality and the celebration of dreams" I strongly agree with him on this.

Rambling: Dining and Dating

There’s this thing about Nigerians, it’s that women/ladies should not get used to eating out because it’s accepted by people – especially her potential husband and his family that if she is then she’s spoilt and likely cannot cook a good meal. Well, true or not, I have spent half my time dining at one restaurant or the other; almost half my income comes from my dining reviews. Reviews I submit to favourite publications like The Guardian, Videojug.com, StyleView, Voyager, etc but sincerely, I see no harm in a woman who loves to dine out. She definitely enjoys dining out and when she finds a man …or woman chef that can give that she starts a relationship. Now is that wrong? While I’ve for a long while been addicted to dining out – dating and losing lots of my favourite chefs and restaurant thereby, I have also learnt from the experience as a whole. Now I am a great cook! LOL! Yes, my adventure in the dining world has been crowned with what most women desire – ability to make outstanding dishes that leaves everyone salivating for more. I’ve earned myself overtime tons of videos on cooking from top chefs around the world as well as great cook books. Starting that now, I can move on to the next stage …… wait for it ….. I’m going to get a boyfriend, LMAO! Ofcourse I need a boyfriend who I’m going to over feed (no, not make him fat!) with my different cooking adventures. Afterwards, I’ll gather all that’s necessary to bring to pass my long term desire to own a beautiful; top-class restaurant on the island, the restaurant will be known to be one with the best décor ever; the best chefs, professional and exquisite. It will be a three-dimensional restaurant, I’ll stop here for now…it will not be proper if I spill all my wonderful ideas on here right? So, all my dining experience will not be to waste after all… ------ to be continued.
